Smoke Rising
An offline, single-player medieval settlement simulation in Godot and C#. I plan the village. Its people build, farm, gather, carry goods, eat, and rest.
What it is
Smoke Rising grows a small outpost through seasonal farming, physical gathering, workshops, and trade. Villagers choose their work autonomously. When a job matters, I can select units, issue gather, build, repair and movement orders, and bind control groups. Soldiers and the hero take army orders, with formations, levies and rally flags. Skills improve with practice. Food has to last the winter, defenders need gear, and raids need an answer. A normal day lasts ten minutes at 1×, with pause and 2×/3×.
Five age advances gate buildings and research. Kingdom talents, player-called festivals, and soldier, archer, spearman and knight levies give the settlement a longer progression. The source is private and the game is playable. Commercial release acceptance, broader playtesting and balance work remain open.
What I like about it
Villagers pick jobs, meet needs, and move goods on their own, while direct orders let the player intervene. The difficult part is making those two systems agree: an ordered unit still participates in a settlement with food, housing, upkeep and seasonal work.
Checks run on push to main: pure C# unit tests, then a Windows job that builds, checks assets, and boots a smoke test. Local JSON mods drop into a Mods folder beside the game. They do not need the source or an editor.
